Time is money
One of the main features of the pornography is rapidity. A medium budget film ($10.000 - $20.000) is filmed in 2 max.- 4 days. Even a big budget film, which purpose is to win "AVN award"= Adult Video News Award, is filmed in max one week.
These data could look, in an ignorant eye, that porn industry is a commonplace, ... but don't be foolish, before these fast shootings stay a half year preparation of an entire team. I said a half-year because this is an average preparation time before a new film came out. Once a good scenario is accepted by a producer, because this is the starting point of each pornographer, the film must be "pushed out" in 6 months. Why...? 1. To protect your idea; 2. do not late to much with editing, because there is a risk for your stock of tapes to remain in storehouse.
Even if takes a pretty long time from preliminary phase (scenario) till finally the film is ready to be sold; the shooting takes only few days! … Which is the reason? I'll tell you: because there is a huge demand. If you think that only in Europe are produced between 4000 and 6000 movies, one third of these are multiplied in thousand of copies, you can see how important is sex for "some of us".
There are two main production categories: medium ($10.000 - $20.000) and high ($50.000 - $100.000). Depending on this, the shooting takes between 12 and 20 hours a day.
The difference between a high and medium budget film is that in a high budget film the "sex scene is filmed twice" one "soft" and one "hard".
Every respectable production house uses this trick. The soft one is sold to TV companies where explicit sex is not allowed.
Retire
The reasons why porn actors and models are retiring are: producers are no longer want them or the stars no longer want porn.
Because porn industry is focused on females they receive more attention, therefore they retire more quickly.
As the males put on fat they are less noticed. When females excepting their beauty don't need any other talent, males must be able to have "erection and ejaculate in each scene". Only few men can reach this performance.
